Quality Start Los Angeles: An Opportunity for Provider Support and Improvement

Quality Start Los Angeles (QSLA)

Quality Start Los Angeles (QSLA) is a county-wide Quality Improvement System (QIS) designed to empower early learning providers to build upon and improve the quality of care they provide to children ages birth to five. QSLA offers coaching services to a mixed-delivery system of early learning providers in licensed child care centers and family child care homes.

Child care providers participating in QSLA have access to personalized sessions with trained early childhood education coaches. Our coaches help providers implement best practices, develop effective teaching strategies, and create enriching learning environments. QSLA also offers various workshops and educational resources that cover crucial topics such as child development, curriculum planning, health and safety, and family engagement.

An essential component of QSLA is its rating system, which assesses child care programs based on several quality standards including teacher qualifications, learning environments, and child health and development practices. These ratings help providers understand their strengths and areas for improvement, guiding their efforts to enhance the quality of care they offer.

In addition to providing professional development and coaching, QSLA supports child care providers with financial incentives and resources to improve their facilities and educational materials. This comprehensive support helps elevate the overall quality of early childhood education in Los Angeles County by ensuring that more children have access to high-quality early learning experiences, laying a strong foundation for their future success.
